In one of the most beautiful locations of the Prefecture of Aitoloakarnania, the Gorge of Kleisoura, northwest of Messolonghi, at the 20th kilometer of the National Road Messolonghi - Agrinio, dominates the Holy Monastery of Agia Eleousa.

The Monastery "hooked" on the rocks of Mount Arakynthos at a height of 150 meters, seems to be hovering, reminding to many of us, of a meteoric Monastery. Equally imposing stands on the hillside a large Cross 16 meters high, which can be seen from afar. In addition, the late Metropolitan of Aetolia and Acarnania Theoklitos has been buried at the site, at the request of the Blessed Hierarch.

The Holy Monastery of Agia Eleousa is a reference point of the religious life of our Prefecture and celebrates the first Friday after Easter and the first Sunday of June in memory of Giannis Gounaris, where crowds of believers flock to worship the miraculous image of the Virgin Mary.
