The Holy Monastery of Romvos Vatos is located in an extremely inaccessible area on the west side of the Akarnanian Mountains, at a distance of about 23 km from the town of Palairos. It is dedicated to the Nativity of the Virgin and according to tradition was founded 100 years after the fall of Constantinople. The monastery is famous for its wealth and for the role it played in the Greek revolution of 1821, as a refuge for the Greek revolutionaries, but also as a place of treatment for the wounded. The central part of the monastery is built on the north side of the monastery, while the monks' cells are located on the west and east sides. This point of interest is Mountainous and Rural. Suitable season to visit: All-year-round. It is not accessible through public transport.
