The Holy Monastery of the Nursing Home was founded in the 10th century and is one of the oldest monasteries in Greece. Its name is due to the fact that there was a pre-existing nursing home together with a sacred temple. In pre-Christian times, there was a pagan temple there, possibly of the goddess Artemis, and on the wall of the north wing of the monastery is located part of an Ionic-style capital of the ancient temple. During the Turkish occupation, it was set on fire three times, the first on Good Friday, April 13, 1770 by the Turkalvans, the second during the Orlofika and the third on Palm Sunday on April 3, 1821.During the Revolution, on March 9, 1822, a battle was won in the area of ​​the Holy Monastery by Theodoros Kolokotronis, which was rightly attributed to a miracle of Panagia Girokomitissa.
