Astakos is a coastal town in the Prefecture of Aitoloakarnania. It is built at the deepest point of the homonymous gulf and at the foot of Mount Veloutsa, which are the end of the Akarnanian mountains. It is 56 km northwest of Mesolongi and has several attractions, such as the Byzantine castle of Dragamestos and the archeological site of the ancient city. In 2011 the population was 2,696 inhabitants. This point of interest is Coastal and Urban. Suitable season to visit: All-year-round. It is accessible through public transport. It has no fee or ticket.
