Makistos (Barakou)

Makistos (old name: Barakou) is a semi-mountainous settlement built at a height of 350 meters, at the southeastern foot of Mount Lapithas. It is considered that its name is due to the ancient city of Makistos. The waterfalls of Neda are located near the village of Stomion, on the border of the Prefectures of Ileia-Messinia. It is a magical place with rich vegetation and huge waterfalls with icy blue waters, which is suitable for hiking and swimming in nature. These waters come from Mount Lykaio, from where the river Neda springs and end in the Ionian Sea, between the coasts of Kyparissia and Zaxaro. This point of interest is Mountainous and Rural. Suitable season to visit: All-year-round. It is not accessible through public transport.
