Franco-Byzantine Church of Agios Nikolaos

The Franco-Byzantine Church of Agios Nikolaos is located a few meters southwest of Panagia Isova in the village of Tripiti. It dates back to the 14th or 15th century, after the burning of the Monastery of Panagia Isova in 1263, while the building materials of the monastery were used for its construction. The ruined church is a medieval monument built in a peculiar style, unusual for the region, but also for the entire Peloponnese. It is a three-aisled wooden-roofed basilica, which served the needs of Latin monks. The excavation carried out at the site revealed part of its floor, which is covered with a well-preserved multicolored marble, as well as one of its Gothic capitals. This point of interest is Mountainous and Rural. Suitable season to visit: All-year-round. It is not accessible through public transport. It has no fee or ticket. Source of photographic material: Personal archive of Mr. Zervas George.
