The historic Holy Monastery of Panagia Lessiniotissa was built in 1595 southwest of the settlement of Lesini, at the site where in ancient times Lake Kynia was located. In the past, the area was flooded with swamps and access to the monastery was by boat. During the Turkish occupation, it was a refuge for the persecuted.
