The Holy Monastery of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is known as the Monastery of Sepeto and is located near the village of Alifeira, about 10 kilometers north of Andritsaina in the prefecture of Ileia. The particularly historic and impressive Monastery dating back to the 12th century AD, is built on a steep cliff, just above the gorge of the river Triton. It played an important role during the Byzantine period, but also during the Frankish occupation, while its contribution to the faithful of the region was great, during the difficult years of the Turkish occupation. The interior of the Church is decorated with the icon of Panagia Sepetiotissa, which is the work of the Evangelist Luke, but also with many other remarkable icons that adorn the wood-carved gilded iconostasis. In 1915 and 2007 two large fires broke out, which destroyed the central part of the church, the surrounding area of ​​the Monastery and several relics, which were successfully restored. August 23 is considered a day of celebration of the Monastery. This point of interest is Mountainous and Rural. Suitable season to visit: All-year-round. It is not accessible through public transport. It has no fee or ticket.
