The ancient city of Alifeira is located south of the Alfeio valley, at the top of the hill that rises above the current village of Alifeira, near Andritsaina. The city of Alifeira played an important historical role and is an important ancient acropolis of today's prefecture of Ileia. The most important monuments of ancient Alifeira are the sanctuary of Athena and the sanctuary of Asclepius. At the highest point of the hill dominates the walled citadel dating to the 5th century BC, while the fortified wall that surrounded it, survives today in some places and is known by the locals as the Castle of Nerovitsa.
