Village

Lynistaina

Lynistaina is a mountain village of Ileia at an altitude of 820 meters. It is 54 km from Krestena and 11 km from Andritsaina. Its name is due, according to one view, to the ancient Arcadian word wolf, which refers to light, while to another, in honor of Lycia - son of the mythical king of the Arcadians Lycaon. It was a famous city in the state of ancient Figalia, while during the Turkish occupation, Filanthi, daughter of Karalis, emerged, whose bust is located in the village square. It is a village with a long history, as it is known that its inhabitants had taken part in all the liberation struggles, culminating in 1821. This point of interest is Mountainous and Rural. Suitable season to visit: All-year-round. It is not accessible through public transport. It has no fee or ticket. Source of photographic material: President of the local community of Lynistaina Mr. Dralos George.
