Agios Nikolaos Kremastos is a cave monastery of stunning natural beauty. One of the most important monasteries in Greece, with unique rock paintings and a stone temple. A smaller cave is preserved 20 meters north, with also excellent rock paintings. The rock paintings that adorn the two caves are samples of Cappadocian art and, thus, the connection of Aitoloakarnania with Asia Minor is revealed. They date from the 10th to the 13th century.
