The Monastery of Agios Athanasios is located just three hundred meters from the village of Ampelokampos. It is a historic monastery, which until the end of the 19th century operated exclusively for male monks, and then hosted some nuns. In 1999 a large fire broke out that destroyed the monks' cells and with them invaluable heirlooms, icons and libraries, while the only one that managed to survive was the central Holy Temple. Then, the monastery was rebuilt and strengthened internally and externally, which brought the revelation of an important mural. Today it has a fairly large and beautiful courtyard, the cells of the monks, as well as the Holy Temple, inside which there is the icon of Agios Athanasios. This point of interest is Flat and Rural. Suitable season to visit: All-year-round. It is not accessible through public transport. It has no fee or ticket.
