The Holy Monastery of Panagia Frangavilla is a few kilometers southeast of Amaliada. On a large beautiful verdant plateau with a panoramic view of the Ileia plain, is the Holy Church of the Assumption of the Virgin. The Church dedicated to the Virgin Mary, once the katholikon of the Monastery, is one of the most important monuments of Byzantine architecture in Ileia. It belongs to the type of cruciform inscribed with elongated pillars to support the dome and a large semicircular arch to the east, while inside it has remarkable frescoes. It dates back to the middle of the 11th century and has undergone extensive interventions, such as the later built iconostasis in the sanctuary and the later frescoes. This point of interest is Flat and Rural. Suitable season to visit: All-year-round. It is not accessible through public transport. It has no fee or ticket.
