The Meeting of the Janissaries is organized every year in the settlement of Lechaina and gathers a crowd of people from all over Greece. It is believed that the custom dates back to the time of Ottoman rule as patriots, with permission from the Turkish aga, went to other villages ostensibly for celebration and dance, but they exchanged messages to prepare for the Revolution of 1821.
