Historic Sakaretsi was the birthplace of the most important cleftarmatoloi of the Greek Revolution. Sakaretsi during the years of Ottoman rule had a large geographical area that started at the borders of Epirus, Argithea-Thessaly, Agrafa-Evritania and reached Dounista (today's Empesos-Stathas). Here were born and acted fighters and warriors who adorn the pantheon of Heroes of the Revolution. The village, as it is said, was never enslaved to the Turkish yoke and lost countless dead who fell in the battle for the liberation of the homeland.
